Frequently Asked Questions
What is meant by outpatient care?
Outpatient or in-home care refers to the provision of nursing and household assistance to people in need of care in their home environment. It is provided by outpatient or mobile care services and enables those in need of care to remain in their familiar surroundings.
Depending on their needs, the person requiring care receives visits from the home care service several times a day or once a week. This helps relieve the burden on family caregivers.
What services are included in outpatient care?
Nurses working in outpatient care provide the following services:
Physical activities, e.g., assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, eating, or toileting.
Household assistance, such as help with cleaning.
Providing care for the person in need of care and offering support with daily activities, such as accompanying them to appointments, on walks, and to recreational activities.
Providing advice to patients and their families on caregiving issues and arranging for support services, such as meals on wheels and patient transportation; if necessary, also providing in-home nursing care, such as administering medications and injections.
Who is eligible for outpatient care?
Normally, at least Care Level 2 is required to be eligible for home care. However, a serious illness or discharge from the hospital—for example, after surgery—can also result in temporary eligibility for home care.
Those in need of care or their relatives can apply for outpatient care and freely choose their home care service. The necessary services and financing will be clarified in advance. An overview of services and prices can be accessed online or requested free of charge from the care insurance funds.
How are outpatient care services funded?
The cost depends on the scope and frequency of the care. The long-term care insurance fund covers a portion of these costs as in-kind benefits; for some services, we, as a long-term care provider, also bill health insurance companies or social welfare offices.
Long-term care benefits in kind are determined by the care level:
Care Level 1: 0 euros per month
Care level 2: 724 Euros per month
Care Level 3: 1,363 euros per month
Care level 4: 1693 Euros per month
Care Level 5: 2,095 euros per month
If the person in need of care does not make full use of the in-kind benefits, they receive a portion of the care allowance. This can be used to pay for additional assistance provided by family members.
Individuals with Care Level 1 do not receive in-kind care benefits or a care allowance for outpatient care. However, like those with all other care levels, they are entitled to a monthly relief payment of 125 euros. This allowance is intended to promote the independence of the person in need of care or to relieve the burden on family members, for example, by using our care services. People with care levels 2 through 5, however, may only use this money for care-related services and assistance with household tasks. For care level 1, the relief allowance may also be used for personal care services, such as assistance with showering.
What are the benefits of home care?
As a professional home care service, we support our patients and ease the burden on their families. This relief is not only physical but also in terms of time.
Another key advantage is the professionalism of our care staff. Professionalism means that our caregivers are trained in nursing and, through their daily work, have developed the routine and experience that family members often lack.
Another aspect is the transparency and traceability of outpatient home care. Our caregivers must not only document the services provided—which also serves as the basis for billing—but this also gives family members a very good insight into the work our caregivers do.
The familiar environment, the opportunity to continue pursuing one's hobbies, and the ongoing community create a sense of well-being that often makes it much easier and better to cope with age-related illnesses or disabilities than in an unfamiliar and strange environment.
What are body-related care measures
Personal care services are an important part of our nursing care services. Under SGB XI, they include nursing assistance in the areas of personal hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and preventive care:
- Personal Hygiene (care in bed, at the sink, shower, full or partial bath)
- Skin Care, Hair Care
- Undressing and Dressing
- Mobilization, repositioning in bed
- Storage, patient observation
- Assistance with food intake
Treatment care refers to nursing care that is medically prescribed to support or treat a patient's illness or injury.
Treatment care according to SGB V involves the implementation of medical prescriptions or medical measures to ensure medical care by our trained specialists. To guarantee optimal care, we work closely with general practitioners, health insurance companies, etc. Examples include:
- Injections
- Associations
- Insertion and changing of catheters
- Physical measures, e.g., rubbing.
- Administration of eye drops
- Medication Control and Administration
- Suction
- Enteral nutrition via PEG tube
- Nutrition via a port
Preventive care
If a caregiver is unable to provide care due to vacation, illness, or other reasons, the long-term care insurance fund will reimburse the costs of necessary substitute care for a maximum of four weeks per year upon application. The condition is that the person requiring care has been assigned a care level for at least six months.
The care insurance covers the costs for replacement care up to 1,612 euros per year. In addition, it is possible to make use of care services on an hourly basis. Please contact our team for details.
We provide care, meaning individual assistance, during your absence. This time can be used by you, as a caregiver, to relax, attend appointments, or simply have some time for yourself. Respite care is granted upon application to the long-term care insurance fund.
