Neumünster. „My pants don't fit quite right anymore,“ jokes Helmut as he gets himself a cup of coffee. "For two weeks now, it's actually tasted like coffee and not just hot water," he reports. That he can enjoy a cup of coffee again at all was hardly conceivable 10 weeks prior.
Everything was fine until a concert visit, he looks back. Then he suddenly lost consciousness. A coma, a serious head operation, and a long hospital stay were the consequences. Consequently weakened, dependent on continuous nursing care and devices, he left the hospital and moved into the Gadeland residential community of PNT Nursing Services.
„My children chose this, and they did a very good job,“ Helmut praises the family's decision. They looked at several options, he says. The decision was made on Neumünster at the time. „It's beautiful here, and it's a first occupancy to boot,“ he shares the euphoria with which his children raved about the shared living community.
He can also be proud of his health development. Regular therapy and the care provided by the team in the shared apartment slowly got Helmut back on his feet. „The staff here is really great,“ he raves. The physical therapist is located right across the street at the Gadeland Health Center. The distances are short and effective. This is also the goal of the PNT team. They emphasize here: „It is very important to us to optimally promote existing opportunities.“ This allows the team to care for the residents almost individually. The common room in the shared apartment is a great meeting point for everyone, regardless of their health status. „It is important to us that everyone leaves their bed and room regularly.“
The concept is working. Helmut's first cup of coffee was a great partial success, which was celebrated together. He is still being fed artificially, and the breathing cannula is a testament to what Helmut has gone through in recent years. But the next intermediate goal has already been set. A trip to the bakery downstairs for ice cream is planned. This also demonstrates the concept of PNT's shared living arrangements. It is important to the teams that support is provided and that the facility is not the last stop if possible. In Helmut's case, this has worked out wonderfully. He has only been in the shared living arrangement for 7 weeks.
